Governing Amid Rising Incivility
City councils, staff, and communities are finding too much of their attention diverted to disruptions, discord, and even intimidation. These disruptions can come from the outside or from members of the governing body itself. Getting important goals accomplished requires alignment on the council, good teamwork with staff, and civility in the public square. This workshop will focus on how elected officials, with the support of their executive staff, can govern with the rise of incivility. Even if things are going well and you aren’t experiencing threats or disruptions, your city still needs to prepare to lead if circumstances change. The interactive training workshop will be practical, engaging, and a problem-solving learning opportunity for mayors, city councils, city managers, and city attorneys.
We encourage teams of council members, along with their city managers and city attorneys, to participate in this workshop to create synergy when they return to their home city. Participants will hear from elected leaders, former city managers, a city attorney, and skilled facilitators who work with city councils throughout the state and country.
Registrants will receive additional details closer to the workshop date.
