Under SB 827 (Gonzalez, 2025), elected and appointed officials, department heads, and other administrative officers must now take a minimum of two hours of fiscal and financial training.
City officials who began their service before Jan. 1, 2026, must complete their training by Jan. 1, 2028, unless their term ends before Jan. 9, 2028. Officials who began service on or after Jan. 1, 2026, must complete the training within six months of their start date. Priority registration for this webinar will be given to officials who began service on or after Jan. 1, 2026
After initial completion, officials must complete the training at least once every two years to remain in compliance. Training topics include:
- Municipal finance: your role and responsibilities
- Taxes and other revenues
- Budgets and financial planning
- Financial reporting and auditing
- Pensions and OPEBs
- Capital financing and debt
- Investing and cash management
- Financial policies
- Ethics of financial administration
Webinar entry opens at 9:45 a.m., 15 minutes before the session begins. Participants must be present for the entire two-hour session and respond to all polling questions to receive a certificate of attendance. Entry will be prohibited once the session begins.
