Cal Cities Roundtable: Advocating your Fire Department Priorities

Thursday, January 29, 2026 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM   iCalendar Pacific Standard Time

Join us on Jan. 29, at 11:00 a.m. for a roundtable discussion on real‑world examples of successful fire service advocacy and strategies that have produced results.

Fire departments operate at the intersection of public safety, public policy, and public finance. Decisions made by lawmakers at the local, state, and federal levels directly affect fire department budgets, staffing levels, operational capacity, and long‑term readiness. This discussion is designed to equip fire service personnel with the tools and strategies needed to effectively advocate for their departments and engage policymakers in a professional, impactful, and coordinated manner.

This roundtable will provide a practical introduction to fire service advocacy, focusing on how to communicate effectively with lawmakers, align messaging with city leadership, and advance policy priorities that support fire department operations and community safety.

Discussion topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Advocacy 101
  • Engaging Lawmakers Effectively
  • Working with Your City
  • City Case Studies
  • Peer Discussion and Q&A

Moderated by:
Damon Conklin, Legislative Advocate, Cal Cities

Fire department voices are most effective when they are informed, coordinated, and strategic. We encourage all interested fire service personnel to attend this webinar and strengthen their advocacy efforts on behalf of public safety.

Roundtable Discussions are available as an exclusive member benefit and are open to Cal Cities member cities only. Discussions are member driven and will not be recorded. The Zoom meeting information will be provided after registration. For questions specific to registration, please contact Isaac Black.
