Webinar: What Local Elected Officials Need to Know About Behested Payments

The Political Reform Act requires local elected officials to disclose certain information about “behested payments” —payments made for a charitable, legislative, or governmental purpose when the official is involved in making the request for payment. Local elected officials must report these behested payments whenever a single source makes payments that meet or exceed $5,000 in a calendar year.

This webinar explains the filing and reporting requirements for behested payments. Topics include:

  • Filing requirements for Form 803 (Behested Payment Report).
  • Required disclosures on donor-advised funds/sponsoring organizations.
  • Reporting estimates and sending written requests for information.
  • Disclosing the public official’s role at a nonprofit organization and when a proceeding is before their agency.
  • When a public official is featured in a charity solicitation.
