Cal Cities Roundtable: Navigating Your Early Years as a City Manager

Join us for an upcoming Cal Cities Roundtable designed for new and early-career City Managers with three years of experience or less on April 15 at 2:00 p.m. This session provides a space to connect with peers, ask questions, and share experiences with fellow City Managers who are in the early years of their careers.

Whether you are stepping into your first role or building your leadership approach in your first few years, this conversation is designed to support you, normalize shared challenges, and create a network of peers navigating similar experiences.

Discussion topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Transitioning into the City Manager role and establishing early priorities
  • Navigating relationships with elected officials, staff, and the community
  • Building confidence in decision-making and leadership style
  • Lessons learned from the first three years in the role
  • Importance of creating support systems and staying connected with peers
  • Additional topics identified by participants

Moderated by:

Matt Downing, City Manager, Arroyo Grande
Jorge Garcia, City Manager, Pismo Beach

Roundtable Discussions are available as an exclusive member benefit and are open to Cal Cities member cities only. Discussions are member driven and will not be recorded. The Zoom meeting information will be provided after registration. For questions specific to registration, please contact Isaac Black.
