Cal Cities Roundtable: El Niño Preparedness

Wednesday, November 04, 2026 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM   iCalendar Pacific Standard Time

Experts are warning that this could be the most extreme El Niño event in history, bringing extreme flooding and elevated sea levels to Southern and coastal California in particular. Join Cal Cities on Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. for an interactive roundtable discussion on proactive planning and preparedness for El Niño-related weather events.

This discussion will explore strategies for strengthening city readiness, including pre-positioning resources, emergency communications and public notifications, interagency coordination, and using weather forecasts to inform planning and response efforts.

City managers, mayors, council members, and emergency managers are encouraged to participate, share best practices, and discuss how cities can work together to prepare for and respond to severe weather and related impacts.

Moderated by:
Chris Freeland, City Manager, Indian Wells and President, Cal Cities City Managers Department
Melissa Sparks-Kranz, Legislative Advocate, Cal Cities

Roundtable Discussions are available as an exclusive member benefit and are open to Cal Cities member cities only. Discussions are member driven and will not be recorded. The Zoom meeting information will be provided after registration. For questions specific to registration, please contact Isaac Black.
