SB 827 (Gonzalez, 2025) requires local officials to receive two hours of specified fiscal and financial training at least once every two years. Newly elected and appointed local officials must complete the training within six months of becoming public servants. This training will cover municipal finance responsibilities, revenues, budgeting, reporting, pensions, debt, investing, financial policies, ethics, and other topics.

Webinar entry opens at 1:15 p.m., 15 minutes before the session begins. Participants must be present for the full two-hour session and respond to all polling questions to receive the certificate of attendance. Entry will be prohibited once the session begins.

Presenters:
Michael Coleman, Fiscal Policy Advisor, CaliforniaCityFinance.com
Christina Turner, City Manager, Morgan Hill

Registration is $50 for Cal Cities members. Nonmember cities and other government entities will be charged $150. Registration must be completed by Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2026. Registration is limited.

Upon registering for the training, participants will receive a discount code to purchase Cal Cities’ Municipal Revenue Handbook — the most comprehensive guide to municipal revenue in California, available exclusively through Cal Cities. This essential resource complements the training by providing in-depth, practical insights city officials can rely on long after the session concludes.
